The City of El Cajon Celebrates Arbor Day, Saturday, March 25th

Join the City of El Cajon, Saturday, March 25, as it celebrates the City's 20th year of receiving the Tree City USA award and its 28th Annual Arbor Day ceremony.  Festivities will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Kennedy Park, located at 1675 East Madison Avenue.  Councilmembers Steve Goble and Ben Kalasho, and City Manager Douglas Williford will be taking part in the ceremonial tree planting, along with students from the Lion’s Club at Granite Hills High School and the Key Club at Grossmont High School.

The Tree City USA Award will be presented to the City by CAL Fire. Assisting with the traditional tree planting ceremony will be an arborist from Cuyamaca and Southwestern College.  West Coast Arborists will also be on hand to discuss the benefits of trees.

In addition, representatives from San Diego Gas & Electric, Waste Management, and Padre Dam will have displays providing conservation tips.  Girl Scout Troop 5119 Color Guard will take part in the opening ceremony and the El Cajon Teen Coalition will assist in providing light refreshments after the ceremony.

Arbor Day is a nationally celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care.  Trees can reduce the erosion of topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate temperature, clean the air, produce life-giving oxygen, and provide habitat for wildlife.

In celebration of Arbor Day, over 20 trees will be planted at Kennedy Park, located at 1675 East Madison Avenue.  For more information please call (619) 441-1653.
